From Rome to L'Aquila: a journey through the heart of Italy, one step at a time

Welcome to the map of theCammino Naturale dei Parchi(CNP).

Here you will find not only a trail to follow, but an invitation to enjoy an experience that overturns traditional perspectives.

For centuries, all roads led to Rome, but our trail invites you to do the opposite:leave the Eternal Citybehind and immerse yourself in the vibrant silence of the protected areas between Lazio and Abruzzo.

The CNP is not just a simple trail, but an invisible thread that connectsprotected areas, nature reserves, and ancient villages.

Inspired by the Spanish Caminos Naturales model, the route was designed by those who live in and protect these lands every day: the technicians and park rangers of the protected areas of the Lazio Region.

You will cross hidden valleys, centuries-old forests, and Apennine peaks, moving through the realm of the wolf, the golden eagle, and the Marsican brown bear. Each stage is a window onto the biodiversity and authentic beauty of “minor Italy.”

The trail has been designed to be accessible to everyone, not just experienced hikers. Whether you are a tireless walker or a dreamer in search of regeneration, you can experience the route at your own pace:

25 stagesdesigned to guarantee the right balance between physical challenge and contemplation.

4 weeksof walking in total, for those who want to complete the entire crossing from Rome to L’Aquila.

42 villagesto discover, where the local hospitality and centuries-old traditions will make you feel at home.

Modular route: Thanks to its subdivision, you can choose to walk just a single stage or a themed weekend.

Walking along the CNP also means crossing the lands wounded by the recent earthquakes in Central Italy. Your physical presence on these trails is amessage of closeness and supportto local communities. Slow tourism thus becomes a tool for economic and social rebirth, a way of saying, “We are here, together.”

Walking here means increasing your respect for the environment, rediscovering your mental and physical well-being, and rediscovering the value of human relationships. Between one valley and another, you will not only find landscapes to photograph, but also a new awareness of the deep bond that unites man and nature.
