Corvaro – Accumoli

Week - 3

This is the third week from Corvaro to Accumoli, covering 102 km.

The pace becomes more pronounced, and your eyes and soul are enriched with enchanting images as you climb higher and higher, admiring villages nestled like precious jewels among the mountains.

Corvaro is a village that has preserved its harmony and imaginative medieval character, nestled in the mountains of the central Apennines of Lazio and Abruzzo in the Montagne della Duchessa Nature Reserve.

We will pass through Castiglione and then on to Rascino, where we will find a wonderful lake, a karst basin that collects rainwater and snow.

Next comes Antrodoco, whose name derives from the ancient root ocre, meaning “between the mountains.”

We will continue climbing gently towards Posta, following the narrow valley created by the Velino River, located about halfway between Rome and Ascoli Piceno. The name reflects the use that was made of the place, namely as a resting place and lodging for travelers.

We conclude our third stage with breathtaking landscapes that will entice you to keep going and continue discovering the intimacy offered by these giant mountains, arriving in Cittareale, a wedge of Lazio bordering both Abruzzo and Umbria, and finally Accumoli at 855 m between the Umbria-Marche Apennines in the far north-east of Lazio.
