20. Accumoli – Amatrice

From here we start

From Fonte del Campo (730mt altitude) take the uphill road that leaves the village and runs along the new Salaria; at the junction, take the path on the left that goes up through the beechwood, intercept and follow a stretch of about 120 meters of the road to Poggio Casoli and then go left on the path that passes next to the small cemetery of Poggio Casoli and continues up to St. Thomas (1019 meters, 1.40 hours from the start). Continue along the panoramic asphalt road heading south and you will arrive in Collalto after 10 minutes (1081 meters).

Between small villages and ancient mule tracks

Start the descent on the asphalt road and after about 500 meters you take the path in the woods, bordered by dry stone walls, which leads to the village of Casale (altitude 982 meters); at the end of the village, take the old municipal road on the left downhill and cross the bridgeover the Lagozzo torrent. Climb up to the hamlet of San Lorenzo and Flaviano (altitude 926 meters).

When you reach the end of the village, take a mule track to the left that goes down to the Meneghella ditch, then go up until you reach the village square of Rocchetta (altitude 912m). Continuing on the old municipal road you rejoin the asphalted road that, traveled for about 500 meters, jugs up to the sanctuary of the Madonna di Filetta (altitude 861 meters, 3.40 hours from the start).

The place deserves a break, before starting the last stretch of trail that goesdown into the woods until you reach the plain and pass in front of what remains of the ancient town of Filetta. Go along the Tronto river and cross a wooden bridge to cross the Sommati ditch, then continue uphill along the mule track characterized by the presence of ancient kilns, up tothe village of Cornillo Vecchio (887 mt. placed a sacred shrine.

Through the inhabited area, you descend towards the Tronto that you pass through a wooden bridge.

The path continues uphill along the ancient mule track that connected the capital to the Salaria, up to the state road Picente, to be covered for about 600 meters. up to take an incised path that develops on the steep rocky spur on which Amatrice is placed. Finally, you climb up to the walls of the city of Amatrice (950 m.) Which is accessed from the Castle gate.

NOTE: at the moment some fractions are not feasible; it is therefore necessary to find an alternative route on the spot to rejoin the road.
