The first week begins in Rome and ends in Castel di Tora, a small, charming village perched on a hill overlooking Lake Turano and belonging to the Monti Navegna e Cervia Nature Reserve.
The departure point is the Circus Maximus, from where we set off for the Antica Cartiera, home to the Appia Antica Regional Park. We then head towards Caffarella, continuing along the ancient Via dell’Appia to Frattocchie, in the municipality of Marino. To conclude the first stage, we take a secondary asphalt road to the village of Castel Gandolfo. (End of Stage 1)
After crossing the village, take the asphalt provincial road to the roundabout for Rocca di Papa, a village in the heart of the Castelli Romani Regional Park. Just before the roundabout, on the right, there is a dirt track that crosses the asphalt provincial road and leads to the back of the Pratoni del Vivaro Federal Equestrian Centre. After that, take a secondary asphalt road that leads to the junction for Rocca Priora. From there, head towards Rocca di Papa until you reach the sports centre (football field) where you will cross a dirt road that leads to the hamlet of Carchitti.
Take the paved road through the town of Carchitti and then follow the secondary paved roads that lead to Via Casilina. Follow Via Casilina for a short distance and then take a dirt road and continue on a secondary paved road that leads to the municipality of Palestrina. Cross the village in the direction of Castel San Pietro, following the provincial road, and you will arrive at Capranica Prenestina. (End of Stage 2)
Once in Capranica, take the provincial road that leads to Pisoniano, cross the entire historic centre until you reach a dirt road that leads to the secondary asphalt road to the junction for Gerano. Follow the signs for Canterano/Subiaco until you reach Canterano, then take a secondary road that runs alongside the Aniene River and leads to Subiaco. (End of Stage 3)
Remaining within the Monti Simbruini Regional Park, continue along the provincial road towards Cervara di Roma to reach Arsoli where, once you arrive at the central square, head towards Rome. Shortly afterwards, you will come to a small asphalt road that leads to the historic centre of the municipality of Roviano. Descend along the provincial road, cross the Tiburtina and continue towards Anticoli Corrado. After crossing the bridge, turn right at the second dirt road that leads to the junction for Cineto Romano, thus ending the fourth stage in the historic centre of the village. (End of Stage 4)
Once you enter the Monti Lucretili Regional Park, go up a dirt road that leads to Percile and, when you reach the town, take the asphalt road to the village of Orvinio. Continue along the provincial road that leads to Pozzaglia Sabiana, cross Montorio in Valle and then continue towards Castel di Tora, passing through Pietraforte. After about a kilometre, you will see a dirt road on the right-hand side which, running alongside Lake Turano, leads to the village of Castel di Tora. It is important to note that to reach the historic centre, located on the opposite side of the lake, you need to cross a bridge. (End of Stage 5)
