Recipes on the Go

Spring is here! To kick off this enchanting season with enthusiasm and energy, we invite all establishments to share their delicious recipes with us, stimulating the creativity of our walkers and filling them with vitality and optimism as they set out to explore the paths of the soul and our beautiful lands. After all, the Cammino Naturale dei Parchi connects two cities of great importance, Rome and L’Aquila, through a route that intertwines elements of absolute excellence that combine history and tradition. In this context, why not mention the endless culinary specialties that each territory along the route can offer its travelers? The typical local products, simple in their raw ingredients but elaborate in their preparation, represent the pride of the intangible cultural heritage as they embody the true identity of the territory, so: HAVE FUN and send us your recipes by email!

The first recipe we suggest is for “Transhumant Meatballs,” proposed by “Le Ragazze del Grottino” on Lake Albano: these are delicious meatballs that were always found in shepherds’ bags. We are sure you will enjoy preparing them and won’t be able to count how many you have eaten!
Boil enough potatoes, mash them, and add pecorino cheese, eggs, and wild herbs. Mix everything together with some stale bread that has been softened beforehand and make a flattened meatball like a hamburger to cook on the grill or in the oven. Those with a sweet tooth may decide to coat them in breadcrumbs and fry them… Use your imagination to season them and make them “typically yours” and then send us your feedback!
