The 2019 civil service program got off to a good start. The first experience in the area was in the lands that are home to the highest mountains in the Central Apennines. We left Campotosto (AQ) in the direction of Amatrice (RI) to walk and describe one of the stages of the Cammino Naturale dei Parchi (Natural Path of the Parks). Two OLP volunteers from the Monti Simbruini park, Sebastiano and Francesca, joined us for this experience. The route was mainly downhill, skirting the steep slopes of the Laga mountains and gradually descending towards Amatrice. Halfway along the route, we came across traces of those who have always lived in the mountains and find their perfect habitat in its waters and plants.
By midday, we were starting to feel hungry, so we decided to stop for a few minutes to enjoy our sandwiches, which taste absolutely delicious in the mountains at that altitude… or is it just because we’re hungry?
After this well-deserved break, we set off again, skirting the woods until we reached the paved road that would take us to the center of Amatrice, where a refreshing snack awaited us before we set off again.
