Planting a pole with arrows pointing in the right direction along the Nature Trail, surrounded by a herd of cows with the mountains in the background, and talking to the “shepherd and beekeeper,” our GREAT FRIEND, is the image we want to share and convey!
Giorgio’s story is one of slow rebirth after the trauma of the 2016 earthquake.
We met him and got to know him while he was guiding us along the roads and paths of his mountains between Accumoli and Cittareale in the fall of 2016, when he had recently lost his home and was RESISTING with his beautiful family, the strength of his wife Annarita being incredible and moving, in the hamlet at an altitude of 1000 m, inside a small camper van with all the inconveniences that entailed, because it was unthinkable to leave his primary activity and his home.
Then came the heavy snowfall of winter 2017, with the cows in difficulty due to the lack of a barn, a completely dry shelter, because that too had been ruined by the earthquake!
We have spoken on the phone many times over the past two years, met much less often, but the desire to see each other again has always been with us….
And so, when the installation of road signs in his area was scheduled, that same morning at the exit of the SR Salaria, a phone call, a few rings, friendly voices, a hug and being together again and seeing with teary eyes that rebirth has slowly resumed its course.
We are happy to admire, alongside them, the enchanted mountains of the Apennines once again with a positive spirit and a serene gaze.
The journey is, and perhaps above all, a testimony to the places and the people who live there!
