The solidarity shown by women towards the women affected by the earthquake in Amatrice and the surrounding area has led to the inauguration of the Casa delle Donne (Women’s House). A symbolic place of rebirth, an all-female response to the devastation caused by the earthquake that destroyed the town in Lazio three years ago. Amatrice was crushed, wounded in its very heart. For three years, the women of Amatrice and the 69 neighboring villages worked to create a place from which to start again.
They were able to do so thanks to the outpouring of solidarity from many other women from all over Italy, which made it possible to construct this airy building, with its grand ambitions and open to dreams. “I know you have had many contacts,” said Giovanna Pugliese, the new councilor for equal opportunities for the Lazio Region, yesterday. “We are thinking of making the Casa delle Donne di Amatrice a real brand, and the Lazio Region will always stand by women.”
